KONMARI METHOD | THE DECLUTTER METHOD I’VE BEEN USING FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS | decluttering + minimalism
HERE IS THE KONMARI DECLUTTERING METHOD THAT ACTUALLY WORKS! I LEARNED THIS DECLUTTERING METHOD FROM MARI KONDO’S BOOK ‘THE LIFE CHANGING MAGIC OF TIDYING UP’ |
1. Dump out all of (your) clothes into A pile - check for clothes around the house & ensure you have every single item.
2. Only pull out what you enjoy wearing.
3. Wipe out or sweep the spaces where your clothes once were.
4. Only put back what you enjoy & what’s in season.
5. Store out of season items away. Discard or donate what’s leftover.
I watch YouTube videos, for decluttering inspiration and I mostly think to myself, ‘that’s minimalism?’. Welp, people may ask themselves that same thing when they see my house, or our car. The beautiful thing about the way we all live our lives is that they’re OUR LIVES, making we get to choose. And if that means I call myself a minimalist for the sake of trying, then I can die knowing that I tried to choose more of what matters most to me & discard the rest. & this goes far beyond ‘stuff’, it also seeps into my rhythms, my relationships & beyond!
Marie Kondo said it best, “We are our own degree of minimalism.”.
It was her book that changed my life eight years ago. I stumbled upon it on Instagram, of all places. Influencers can in fact influence less.
So we get to pick the degree, or what I like to call the standard of how little we want to touch & tidy. How much time we want to spend on everything we own. Whether it be now, or when we move. Or, our kiddos after we die — every THING we own will one day have to be moved about.
So, I’ve created a monthly magazine that will hopefully inspire & encourage a consistent ‘declutter’ rhythm. Whether it be daily or weekly. My goal is to free up time, energy & space for all of us — TODAY. When I blog & blog about minimalism, it forces me to look into the mirror and keeps me accountable. I appreciate you being here and reading. I’m conscious to the fact that I’m American which means my house, although much smaller than average, is still bigger than the average home in the world. My car, although older than some, means I’m the top % of car owners — IN THE WORLD. & all of this to say, I probably have more than most, even though I consider myself a “minimalist”. I don’t have this lifestyle figured out, I know I’ll consistently be trying to ‘figure it out’ & I’ll try & share as I go!
With grace & coffee,
Waynna
